Spray foam is a building material — and code says it can't be left exposed in most living and working spaces. We apply intumescent barrier coatings like DC315 and No-Burn over the foam — or install FireStable™, a spray foam that's its own code-complying fire barrier. Either way your insulation ends up protected, code-compliant, and safe — a service almost no one in East Texas offers.
Building codes (IBC and IRC) require spray polyurethane foam to be separated from occupied spaces by an approved thermal barrier or, in some areas, an ignition barrier. Left bare in a shop, attic, garage, or crawlspace, exposed foam can be a code violation — and a fire risk.
An intumescent coating is the approved, cost-effective way to meet that requirement. It's a water-based coating that, in a fire, swells into a thick insulating char that slows the spread of flame, smoke, and hot gases across the foam.
Protective coating over foam
Two of the most widely code-approved intumescent barrier coatings for spray foam. We apply them to spec, at the right thickness, so they perform and pass.
A water-based intumescent coating approved as an alternative thermal and ignition barrier over spray foam. Meets IBC/IRC code with testing behind NFPA, ASTM, UL and more.
An intumescent fire-protective coating for foam and building materials, applied as a code-compliant barrier that slows ignition and flame spread.
No coating makes a building fireproof. Intumescent coatings are tested, code-recognized fire-protective barriers: they protect the foam and slow the spread of fire so people have more time to respond. Requirements vary by building and jurisdiction — we'll apply what your project actually needs and what your inspector will approve.
FireStable™ 2.0 · in the field
DC315 and No-Burn go on top of the foam. FireStable™ 2.0 builds the protection in. It's a two-component, spray-applied polyurethane foam that's also a code-complying thermal barrier on its own — so you get insulation, an air barrier, a vapor retarder, and fire protection in a single step, with no separate coating required.
FireStable™ is a product of Firestable Insulation Company. firestable.com
